Witch-moon, upon the beck of blood afloat The Midnight Beetle's brave prophetic Boat!
Let the Illusion of the world pass over thee, unheeded, as thou goest from the Midnight to the Morning.

The process is under the dispassionate observation of the Moon, reflected light of the Sun. Intellect is implied by the 16 rays large emanating from the moon. 16 = 8*2 where 8 is Hod, Intellect, and 2 implies reflection. Also 2 is the Sephira Hokhma implied by the 15 יs in the Waite deck. 15 is the number of יה which is the divine name of Hokhma.
The 16 smaller rays imply another level of reflection of the 8

Hyatt describes this path as the secret qualities of the changing forces of mood and will opposing and combining the phases of personality

As corporeal intelligence, a lot of daily activity in engaging this path consisted of the awareness of the body and the observation of the struggle on the visceral level between moods and true intentions. A constant sense of suspicion of the intentions of others and subsequent reminder that things are not what they seem - not necessarily as damaging as they appear... most of the time a paranoid conclusion never came to materialize.
Joseph Lisiewski wrote that this path is the one which enables the materialization of any work of magic.
overall any harrowing experience requiring the deliberate act of will through doubt and fear and errors committed in the process. The process which involved the subconscious will more than conscious more instinctual than intellectual. The intellect here is a pictured by the moon itself, calmly and dispassionately observing the activity below, the two towers, the dog and the wolf, same creature, one domesticated one wild, the shellfish rising from below. The pool that it is rising from is the collective subconscious, the source of all life, the same pool in the previous card, The Star, also in Temerance.. In temeprance the life force has been tempered and refined. In The Star it has been given life and in the Moon it rises, but its the Hideous tendency which is lower than the savage beast. It strives to attain manifestation but as a rule it sinks back whence it came...
